14" wide x 2.5" high

As we spin on Earth, so spins the potter's wheel. As Earth wobbles, so clay on the wheel chatters. Here the vast landscape is glaze from those forces; rock slurry from mid-Atlantic Ridge and an iridium anomaly from the first sediment core that demonstrated the asteroid dust flying about the globe 65 million years ago. This combines a great outcome with a dwindling sample -- the last of this size I can do. The chatter-patterned clay fired once made a surface that received the sediment thick in to low parts and thin in the high places. EVIDENCE: Ceramics from Earth's Kiln and Mine
EVIDENCE: Ceramics from Earth's Kiln and Mine

Some WOW stuff came from the kiln over twenty years of melting muds and rocks. Some I photographed and have assembled into a set of twelve cards you can see as thumbnails and a slideshow here. Cards are blank inside EXCEPT a thirteenth with a LEGEND inside -- it refers to numbers on each card.

NOTE about shipping: $7.50 is the cost of one in a Flat Rate USPS box but website only calculates UPS. If you need shipping, I'll subtract the difference between $7.50 and the UPS charge so you'll pay the lower cost. If you're buying multiple boxes, I'll probably use UPS; if in doubt, contact me.

Celebrating the Place
Celebrating the Place

When I work I feel it in my bones sometimes and yes with this one as the sound of the word polynya kept rolling off my mouth in the various dialects I imagined from my Russian ancestors (I understand the word polynya is Russian for pool).

So when I chop the glass, pick the right brush, and every other movement I make -- all seem to set loose some grace that pleases me in the result. A huge sigh, of course!. Why should it not be beautiful?

I love this brown sediment glaze. Maybe it's a precursor of a trip I'll make to Antarctica as a useful person on a ship?

Center is copper green glaze framed by chopped blue sea glass. White matte and lavender rim assembled from refined materials.
