Lower exterior is the fine-grained sediment that contracted (much like a dry riverbed) after being applied to once-fired porcelain. It shrank, pulled away in curls from the clay cup and then relaxed back down during firing, when it fused onto the clay. Interior glaze assembled from refined materials onto a chattered clay surface.
