K-T Boundary, about 65 million years ago contains iridium anomaly from an asteroid impact thought to have caused dinosaur extinction. That's the "dust" and the "crust" is slurry I got from cutting rocks drilled from the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Sometimes the materials look like what they are meaning the K-T Band looks like dust and the Earth crust looks like splitting plates.
