Beginning with a salute to scientists and artists, the center fish was stamped with a carving by Alan Steinbach MD, PhD. Surrounding that is Earth crust slurry melted and then the seven marine sediments -- each with a unique nature. One has opals, one fibrous roots from seasonal blooms, one mineral-rich metallics, one dated shells from 30 million years ago, one a remnant from scouring the seafloor for a lost seismometer in a hydrates area.
