Commemorating Earth's generative nature, this series is all about hydrothermal vent granules. They're used as a stain in the vent-shaped area, over which I've written with a brush. Top third exterior is a dip of sediment from a NOAA designated marine sanctuary -- glaze is the Monterey Bay seafloor melted.

Bottom third is Mid-Atlantic Ridge slurry melted on a porcelain surface incised by chattering when it was in motion on the wheel. Gold leaf is the best way I can express my sense of Earth's molten interior. Juicy gooey basaltic stuff cools into rocks--gets cut and applied to a pot -- melted here.

Sea-glass filled dimples adorn the shiny brown glaze that's on the interior and top third. Lavender also assembled from refined materials.

This porcelain becomes transparent and also can warp, which it did on this piece, which was in a hot spot near the kiln's flue.
