Base area is glazed with clay mined from a now-closed quarry in Albany New York.

Mud Patch is a fine-sandy glaze (good for filing your nails) that come's from a thirty square mile are south of Martha's Vineyard called a "continental bight". It's on the exterior of this mug. Interior shiny white, tinged with blue from a black stripe of a black glaze, assembled from refined materials. A dimple of blue glass in the handle.

Muddy muck from the sandy seafloor named "Mud Patch" covers the bottom half of this mug -- sediment was wiped off with a wooden stick to reveal the soupy character of the sandy sediment. It glistens and works well for filing nails.

Interior shiny white laid over blue line for color. Seaglass thumbwell.

Center of blue beach glass framed by Helnar sand framed by crater ash. Rim glazed with Seljalandfoss. Foot glazed with sediment from Boston Harbor near Logan Airport.

Other glaze is a rutile slip.

This porcelain becomes transparent and also can warp, which it did on this piece, which was in a hot spot near the kiln's flue.
