Two effects of the eel grass remain: ash residue in glossy lines and salt blush where vaporized salt interacted with silica in the iron-rich clay body and left orange sheen. I read that as an aura of where seaweed once was.

Namibian Rock & Earth Crust ~ Cold Out Hot In
Namibian Rock & Earth Crust ~ Cold Out Hot In

14" high

While Earth was spinning covered glaciers, inside was the same molten core we now float atop. The Earth crust slurry is at the neck, from the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and it organized into these brick-shapes as it dried and was fired (in relation to the stress memories of the clay body below it). The matte white glaze was assembled from refined materials. The Namibian rock that reports on global glaciers 600 million years ago is in the body of pot, was evenly applied, and made branching patterns during firing. It gets it's golden colors from mettalic oxides in the clay below interacting with it during firing.

Salt Glaze or Pumice/Mud?

10" x 3.5"

Aside from a brushed band of blue glaze and text wecorded with a few brush-hairs, only a thin wash of volcanic pumice/mud are fused onto the stoneware clay. It looks like salt glaze has looked when it interacts with clay's silica and forms beaded clusters. In salt-glaze the mini-blobs result from salt interacting with silica in the clay; in this bowl the mini-blobs result from pumice/mud settling and coagulating onto the clay's surface.

When people ask if I have a favorite material I'm close to admitting it's this one -- Earth's crust. It's versatility and ability to morph shape in spite of persisting chemistry expresses something I find thrilling.

HERE -- the chatter pattern displays it thin and thick and the place where the celadon overlaps it and makes red is an indicator of something chemists could explain better than I can. I can enjoy it though -- the more I see it the more I find to appreciate.
